Regions

The mission will focus on three developing automotive regions. In these regions the automotive industry is already present or is in development. The following regions will be visited: Delhi, Pune and Chennai.

The local production plants are mostly located around these three cities. All vested manufacturers have plans to at least double the production in the following one to three years. New players in the Indian automotive market are mostly concentrating on the region Pune.

Delhi

    Delphi is the national capital region of India and can be seen as a highly political environment.

Pune

  • Region
    Well-connected to Mumbai, India’s commercial capital. Highest number of educated HR supply. Very business oriented region with a high need for engineering services and procedures.

Chennai

  • Region
    Traditional, highly religious and industrious region. Offers largest number of unskilled and semi/skilled HR. Very pro business political environment
  • Production
    - Maruti-Suzuki, 550.000 cars, planning 1 million units in 2010.
    - Honda produces cars which are developed in Japan and Thailand.

    - Tata motors is located in Pune, they developed from a truck producer to a full line manufacturer. Production of 270.000 units in three different regions. ( 1 million in 2012)
    - Mahindra & Mahindra aims to become leader in SUV’s, production of 129.000 units, building 2 extra production plants
    - GM builds a plant with a capacity of 140.000 units
    - Volkswagen builds a 110.000 units plant.

    - Hyundai production of 250.000 units, plans for 2009: 600.000 units
    - Renault-Nissan, building plant with a capacity of 400.000 units in 2009. Planning the production of small car.
    - Ford: 100.000 units plant producing India specific products, planning production of small car for 2009.

    In Delhi one of the few international airports is located, the infrastructure is under development.

    Pune is known for the best infrastructure of India.

    Chennai is seen as India´s largest car export gateway.

The traditional Indian car manufacturers have big plans to expand there own production facilities to a capacity of over one million units in a few years. Because of the booming car industry international car manufacturers are already building or have plans to build new production facilities. Both the local as the international companies focus on the three regions. Because of this local and international suppliers are also investing in new facilities in these three regions around the manufacturers. These OEM’s and suppliers will be contacted to plan company visits and to join our match making events.
